Arsenal vs Tottenham: Who wins Champions League race with North London Derby the crucial fixture

[ad_1]

It looks set to be a fight to the very last weekend for the final Champions League spot in the Premier League this season. And, looking at the table and the fixtures, it could well be a battle of north London for fourth place between Arsenal and Tottenham.

Manchester United and West Ham remain in the race of course, but it could be a shootout between the two fierce North London rivals when it comes to May. The two sides have a mixture of favourable looking games and tough assignments, so who will come out on top?

Arsenal are in pole position, leading Spurs by three points currently, but having a game in hand on the Lilywhites, although that is away at third-placed Chelsea. It is sure to be an intriguing battle nonetheless and we asked Arsenal writer Tom Canton and Spurs writer Emma de Duve to predict the fixtures between now and the end of the campaign to see who would come out on top – or fourth to be exact. Stand by for some particularly biased selections…

Tottenham vs Newcastle

Tottenham got a win at St James’ Park and will go into the game on the back of their victory over West Ham before the international break. I think it could be a tough game but reckon Spurs will secure three points with a win. SPURS WIN

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal

A notoriously difficult game for Arsenal but this season Mikel Arteta has avoided the banana skins very well so far. The Gunners have put to bed so many bogey sides, this will hopefully be another. ARSENAL WIN

ARSENAL 57 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 54 POINTS

Arsenal vs Brighton

The record at home to Brighton is strong and Graham Potter’s side have diminished in form. This should be a comfortable victory for Arsenal. ARSENAL WIN

Aston Villa vs Tottenham

A string of victories never seems to last too long for Tottenham and could the short run come to the end with a trip to Villa Park? Steven Gerrard’s side had just one shot on target against Arsenal but if they step-up on their performance against Spurs, I could see it ending in a defeat for Conte’s side. SPURS DEFEAT

ARSENAL 60 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 54 POINTS

Tottenham vs Brighton

Brighton travel to N17 just a month after the game between the two at the AMEX Stadium. If Tottenham can produce the same sort of performance they did in the away tie, it should be a Spurs win. SPURS WIN

Southampton vs Arsenal

Another tough historic game although, Southampton have won just one of the last 12 league clashes. Arsenal again should have enough to take all three points on the south coast. ARSENAL WIN

ARSENAL 63 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 57 POINTS

Chelsea vs Arsenal

I had hope for this game, but the fixture being scheduled just three days before the visit of Manchester United, I believe, makes it one stretch too far. Frustratingly, the Blues will have too much. ARSENAL DEFEAT

ARSENAL 63 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 57 POINTS

Arsenal vs Manchester United

However, Arsenal have bounced back well from defeats and United haven’t won a league game at the Emirates since 2017. Revenge for Old Trafford is coming, and this team knows it needs to win. ARSENAL WIN

Brentford vs Tottenham

It will be a special day when Tottenham play Brentford, seeing Christian Eriksen play, despite him being on the opposing side. Thomas Frank’s side have done well this season but have lost over half of their games and it should be one of the more comfortable wins for Spurs. SPURS WIN

ARSENAL 67 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 60 POINTS

Tottenham vs Leicester

The first game of the season between the two sides was a thrilling game and turned in Tottenham’s favour in the final couple of minutes. If Spurs can replicate all the good things from their performance at the King Power Stadium, then I reckon they can secure three points again. SPURS WIN

West Ham vs Arsenal

My answer might be different if West Ham progress past Lyon considering the Europa League semi-finals would take place the midweek before. For now, I will play it safe and say another away draw at the London Stadium. DRAW

ARSENAL 68 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 63 POINTS

Arsenal vs Leeds United

Like all of Arsenal’s home matches left, it should be a win and Leeds’ continual vulnerabilities can again be exposed by the dominance of the Gunners’ attack. A high scoring victory, please. ARSENAL WIN

Liverpool vs Tottenham

Both teams could have all to play for in this game with Liverpool fighting for the league title and Spurs battling for a top four spot. However, trips to Anfield don’t usually go too well so I think it could be a Tottenham defeat. SPURS DEFEAT

ARSENAL 71 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 63 POINTS

Newcastle vs Arsenal

This is such an unpredictable fixture as Newcastle have both impressed and confused since the winter window. Arsenal’s away record however is very good, and they should have enough to win. ARSENAL WIN

Tottenham vs Burnley

The Burnley fixture will be Tottenham’s final game in N17 of the season and by this point, it could be a crucial game in the top four race. That is why I think Spurs could fall into old habits and just when they may need three points in a winnable game, they may drop some. DRAW

ARSENAL 74 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 64 POINTS

Tottenham vs Arsenal

The NLD is always so unpredictable. Arteta needs to find a way to restrict Kane and Son. I just feel the balance of Arsenal’s quality is better spread throughout the side. But if we play into your hands, which we often do, Spurs will win comfortably. The most likely result therefore is the latter and unfortunately I would have to cave and say Spurs might just edge this one.

This could be the biggest North London Derby in a while for two sides who still have a chance of securing a top four spot. Hopefully, Conte’s side will be very much up for the fixture, and Spurs can produce a much better performance than they did at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season and if they can, I can see Tottenham securing all three points. SPURS WIN

ARSENAL 74 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 67 POINTS

Arsenal vs Everton

Everton are truly awful and by the final game, the league will hopefully already be decided. However, should it not be, final day Champions League deciders have notoriously landed in the Gunners favour, and it will again here. ARSENAL WIN

Norwich vs Tottenham

The final game of the season and who knows what the top four race will look like when the fixture comes around. However, against a Norwich side who have conceded 63 league goals already this season and currently sit bottom, it will hopefully be a positive end to the campaign for Tottenham. SPURS WIN

ARSENAL 77 POINTS
TOTTENHAM 70 POINTS

There may be a certain amount of bias and tribalism from our Arsenal writer there, but if all goes to his plan, Arsenal will comfortably win the race for fourth place and with it a place in the Champions League next season. However, we think it might just be a bit closer than that come May…
