Vladimir Guerrero Jr. certainly put up some solid number back in 2021, which should have earned the Toronto Blue Jays star first baseman some votes for the American League MVP.

The son of Hall-of-Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr. posted a 6.8 WAR, while hitting 48 home runs and driving in 111 runs and hitting for a .311 average.

Guerrero recently said in an interview with Yancen Pujols that he felt slighted by the voting for the AL MVP in 2021.

The award was ultimately given to Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani.

Guerrero said in the interview that he knew Ohtani was likely going to win the award, but that he did not expect it to be unanimous and that he had been expecting to receive at least some votes.

Guerrero Snubbed

It is no surprise that Ohtani won the award.

He certainly deserved it.

But some might believe that Guerrero should have been the choice for AL MVP, and it’s surprising that he received no votes whatsoever.

He put up numbers that are worthy of the MVP award in 2021, or at least some consideration.

Again, Ohtani deserved to win, and Guerrero is acknowledging that Ohtani earned the award.

But he was just a little surprised and understandably felt a bit slighted to not receive any votes at all.

Numbers like that warrant at least a little consideration, and the fact that he got none of it is most surprising.

This may fuel him to have an even better season in 2022.

He certainly has the talent and ability to win an MVP, and it won’t be long before he actually does win one.

But it is surprising that there was no consideration for him last year.
