Oscar Isaac discussed why Moon Knight stands out compared to other MCU heroes.
Marvel Studios’ newest original series Moon Knight is set to premiere on Disney Plus next week, and fans are excited to meet one of the most unique superheroes in the MCU thus far. With an actor like Oscar Isaac bringing the character to life, viewers are guaranteed a captivating performance that goes beyond standard superhero protagonist fare.
Given the nature of his role as both Steven Grant and Marc Spector in Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac portrays one of the most complex and intriguing lead characters the MCU has seen in its near 14-year run thus far. While promoting the new series in a press conference earlier this week, Oscar Isaac discussed how the series’ singular point-of-view distinguishes his character(s) from any other MCU hero:
“Well, I think the story is so point of view. It means that you’re just in the skin of this guy, and you’re seeing things happen. You’re experiencing it just as he’s experiencing it. So there’s something that’s terrifying about that. I think Steven, in particular, there’s a sense of humor there that is different from what we’ve seen. I think Marvel in particular have done such an amazing job at combining action and comedy in such a great way. And I thought with Steven, there was a chance to do a different type of comedy than we’ve seen of somebody that doesn’t know they’re funny, doesn’t know they’re being funny. And so that was really exciting. And then to find the counterpoint of that with Marc, in some ways leaning into a bit of the stereotype of the tortured, dark vigilante guy, but what makes him so special is that he has this little Englishman living inside of him.”
The first four episodes of Moon Knight showcase some of the most experimental narrative presentation in the MCU thus far. Given that it is told mostly through Oscar Isaac’s point-of-view, we are given a glimpse at some of the unique qualities his character(s) bring to the table. Given that both Steven Grant and Marc Spector are distinct personalities, the opportunity to play such a complex character must’ve been a delight for Oscar Isaac, especially when put into a massive canvas that the MCU presents.
Here is the synopsis for the newest MCU series, Moon Knight:
The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
Starring Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, Gaspard Ulliel, and May Calamawy, the new MCU series is set to make its Disney Plus debut on March 30th.
