BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has entered into partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Swiss Agency for Development Corporation (SDC) on the establishment of three jobcentres across the state.

The new job centres are to be established across the three senatorial districts of the state, including Uromi, Esan North West Local Government Area (LGA); Auchi in Etsako West LGA, and Usen in Ovia South East LGA.

Speaking with journalists, Managing Director of Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs), Ukinebo Dare, said: “With over 1300 people in Edo State, having benefited from the two existing job centres in ways like career guidance and counselling, job matching, CV reviews and editing and employability skills training, among others, EdoJobs is expanding its services to cover more areas across the state, particularly the rural areas.”

According to her, “EdoJobs, in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Swiss Agency for Development Corporation (SDC), has expanded these job centres to rural areas in Edo State, with the aim of providing amazing employment opportunities to more job seekers.

“We launched the existing centres in September 2021, at the Edo Innovation Hub, at Wire Road and Edo Production Centre at Sapele Road. These centres have become a beacon of hope to get job seekers connected to meaningful employment or skills programme.”

She added that the services in the job centres cater for all job seekers and those preparing for a career switch, including free curriculum vitae reviews to meet industry standards, providing the best training to help applicants qualify for and apply for jobs, matching them with available vacancies that suit their skills and wage demands and then preparing them for interviews.

Dare noted: “Solving the issue of unskilled graduates, unemployment and under-employment in one swoop, since 2017, EdoJobs has recruited workers for over 200 firms within and outside the state.

“With a mission to provide a highly skilled workforce in Edo State, EdoJobs has also birthed other initiatives. Amongst them are: the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Sound Stage, for content creators to learn about producing audio-visual content as well as providing them with facilities to create content for their social and interactive channels; Edo Innovate Hub, to create the supply of highly skilled ICT talent in Edo State and improve greater access to jobs in the ICT sector. We also have the Edo Food and Agricultural Cluster (EdoFAC), to tackle the challenges of farmers and other agricultural players in the State, and the Edo Tech Park, designed to boost business and talent productivity for technological innovations.”
