Brendan Rodgers reveals Wesley Fofana was fasting during Leicester’s draw with Man United and praises defender after long injury lay-off

Brendan Rodgers has praised Wesley Fofana for his performance during Leicester’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United, which came after the defender began fasting for Ramadan.

Fofana was key as Leicester put in an impressive display at Old Trafford, and were unfortunate to come away with just a point.

The Frenchman had become a star player during his first season in England, but his second campaign was shortened after a horrifying pre-season leg break.

The 21-year-old has managed to make it back before the end of the current campaign though playing 78 minutes and scoring in a UEFA Conference League clash at Rennes, and then went on to complete the full match against United.

That didn’t come without its own challenges though, with his manager, Rodgers, revealing Fofana had begun fasting for Ramadan.

“He has just started Ramadan,” Rodgers explained. “He hasn’t eaten or drunk a thing.

“To play like that shows what a player he is.”

The £36.5million signing from Saint Etienne had a comfortable night against United, whose strikerless system failed to dominate the game.

The point saw Leicester move up to ninth in the Premier League table.

They next face a tough task in the shape of Dutch Eredivisie title challengers PSV Eindhoven in the quarter-finals of the Conference League on Thursday night.
