NEW DELHI: IndiGo will be operating over 150 international routes across the middle east, south and southeast Asia in a gradual ramp-up summer. At 505 weekly international flights, this low-cost leader has the highest departures on a standalone basis among all airlines from India.
It will operate international flights from cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Kozhikode, Kochi, Chandigarh, Tiruchirappalli, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangaluru. The international destinations include Dammam, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Jeddah, Riyadh, Doha, Bangkok, Phuket, Singapore, Colombo, Dubai, Kathmandu, Maldives, and Dhaka.
IndiGo chief commercial officer William Boulter said: “We are pleased to resume our scheduled international operations.
Following the easing of restrictions, we are witnessing a huge demand for international travel. We hope that this enhanced connectivity with various destinations across the continent will provide a boost to the travel and tourism sector while proving to be a catalyst for economic revival. As India’s leading airline, IndiGo remains committed to playing its part in helping the nation bounce back.”
In addition to these flights, IndiGo has also announced the commencement of bookings for flights to Muscat and Kuala Lumpur starting operations in May 2022 and, to Istanbul in June 2022.
At 505 weekly flights, IndiGo will have the highest international departures on a standalone basis among all airlines, followed by Air India at 361, AI Express at 340 and Emirates at 170. Tata Group‘s three airlines (AI, AI Express and Vistara) will have 757 weekly flights, including the only ones by an Indian carrier to North America, Europe, the fast east and Australia.
Airlines had applied for approval of their international schedule for this summer which will be effective from Sunday (March 27) to October 29, 2022. The DGCA has approved 1,466 departures per week by six Indian carriers to 43 destinations in 27 countries. And 60 foreign airlines of 40 countries have been allowed to operate 1,783 weekly flights to and from India. China is not on this list.
The DGCA-approved schedule indicates the maximum number of flights an airline can operate.
