A young watch collector, Zach Lu, is the lucky owner of the $6.5 million Tiffany Blue timepiece. Despite being unsuccessful during his initial efforts to purchase the watch at the auction, the coveted timepiece is now in his possession.
The sequence of events that led to Lu landing the watch is interesting since he was outbid at the auction by an anonymous New Yorker bidder.
Six weeks after the auction, the winning bidder was unable to complete the transaction. Lu was contacted and allowed to purchase the watch, which he accepted and the rest is history.
The 31-year-old has been buying Patek Philippe from Geneva from age 15.
The mind-boggling record for reference 5711 is approximately 100 times its retail price. The partnership between the two long-standing partners and friends created one of the most sought-after watches in recent times.
