Washington, D.C. is the iconic capital of the United States and the beating heart of the nation’s political behemoth. But you may not realize, there is a strong cultural dynamism to D.C and the surrounding, DMV (District of Maryland and Virginia) region. It boasts an impressive roster of arts, culture, and heritage sites, to rival the best the rest of the USA has to offer. The more obvious attractions are its memorials like the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center and the imposing Jefferson Memorial but that is far from being the whole story. Unsurprisingly, there many are other ways to get a taste of Washington’s rich culture. With a vibrant LGBTQ+ community, the capital is diverse and there is never a shortage of things to do and see.
One of the most inclusive annual events, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, offers a plethora of attractions including educational & family-friendly entertainment, parades, performances, art installations, date nights, and the culmination of the social experience with Cherry Night which this year for the first time, features one of the newest additions to Washington’s nightlife, Swingers Crazy Golf.
Swingers Crazy Golf
Swingers Crazy Golf Club is one of the newest Venues on the social radar in D.C. Set in the heart of Washington’s cultural hub amongst stylish bistros and diverse nightlife Swingers is not something that the US party goers have experienced before Swingers launched in the states last June (2021). It’s a unique blend of street food, cocktails, mini-golf (crazy golf as the British lovingly call it) all wrapped up in a total experience set to a traditionally British backdrop. The newly fashionable hangout is celebrating the festival for the first time in 2022 by turning the venue into a cherry paradise with Cherry Blossom decadence throughout. The culmination of the festivities at Swingers will be hosting an official Cherry Night event. As part of the broader festival program the venue’s high-end décor, crazy golf courses with lavish flower arrangements, and pink up-lighters. All whilst you can enjoy well-crafted cocktails, live DJ music, and a competitive game of mini-golf.

With the Almond and Pomegranate Syrup blend, the mouth-watering drink is ideal for those who enjoy the fruity flavor.
A True Embodiment of The Festival
The tradition of gifting Cherry Blossom trees began in 1912 as a gesture of friendship between the people of Japan and the people of the United States. The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a celebration of friendship between two nations. Residents and visitors to Washington participate in the Cherry Blossom Festival to commemorate nature’s fleeting beauty as well as the Japanese custom of tree planting. Festivalgoers during the cherry blossom viewing (Hanami) will indulge in delectable street food and treats at the festival or have a traditional picnic under the blossoming trees. The festival is popular amongst residents due to its blending of the two nations’ cultures.
Festivals are about celebration and connecting with friends and sharing social experiences and one of the many ways to do this is through friendly competition which is somewhat of a shared value between both Eastern and Western cultures. During the Cherry Blossom celebrations, festivalgoers enjoy games such as Katanuki. Katanuki is a highly competitive Japanese festival tradition. The player will be given a cherry blossom candy mould. To win a prize, they must cut the shape out of the mould without the fragile form inside breaking. The challenging game is perfect for participants to connect and share the festival spirit. Just like a game of competitive mini golf, this festival activity requires patience, strategy, and skill.
Challenge your friends on one of Swinger’s custom-designed nine-hole crazy golf courses. Visitors may expect a friendly yet competitive activity that puts everyone’s talents to the test in Dupont Circle’s best location. The venue mixes a brilliantly fun environment with a competitive game that will have participants enjoying the festive cheer for hours.
